San Brizio - Soave D.O.C.

San Brizio

Soave D.O.C.

This is a 100% Garganega from the vineyard behind Villa Buri. Maturation in 500 lt oak barrels fills out the typical scents of Garganega with delicate tertiary hints of vanilla, acacia honey and a complex ripe fruitiness that make it concentrated, mouth-filling and faintly balsamic. This great Soave from the Alpone Valley is rich and well-structured, with a deep straw yellow hue and golden highlights.

We are proud to share that Vinous, founded by Antonio Galloni and considered among the most authoritative wine reviewers in the world, has honored La Cappuccina with some noteworthy awards.

In particular it has assigned 92+ points to SAN BRIZIO Soave 2021, 92 points to MONTE STELLE 2022 and 90 points to Soave 2022.

Here are the notes by Mr. Eric Guido:

    2021 SAN BRIZIO

“Deeply alluring, the 2021 blends rich notes of lemon custard with crushed stones and dusty dried flowers. This washes across the palate with a saline-tinged mix of crisp orchard fruits and gingery spice. The 2021 tapers off with dramatic length and tremendous freshness, leaving a citrusy concentration that puckers the cheeks. Fermentation in oak added dimension and complexity without sacrificing energy. Well done”.

    2022 MONTE STELLE

The 2022 is spicy, with an airy blend of dried flowers, ground ginger and nectarines. Silk-smooth, distinctly savory and cool-toned in feel, this impresses with its core of crunchy orchard fruits and floral perfume that resonates throughout. Medium in length, it finishes with a tinge of minerality, leaving the mouth watering for more”.

    2022 Soave

“The 2022 seduces with a rich blend of lime custard and spring flowers, complicated by hints of wet stone. This washes across the palate with soft and round textures lifted by mineral-tinged acidity. Hints of candied citrus contrast green apple tartness. It tapers off long, fresh and full of zesty tension, leaving a salty flourish that lingers on. This is a perfect introduction to the La Cappuccina style.

We would like to thank Vinous and Mr. Eric Guido for these appreciations which gratify our commitment year after year.

From: Soave - The Long Road Home (Apr 2022)

The 2019 Soave San Brizio is rich and heady in the glass, as almond paste and custard give way to ripe peaches and hints of kiwi. It envelops the palate in glycerol textures, as ultra-ripe tropical fruits cascade across a lifting core of saline-minerals and bright acids. The result is quite appealing, as the San Brizio tapers off remarkably fresh, with hints of young mango, vanilla bean and exotic spices that linger on. While large-scale in feel, the 2019 is harmonious and should do well over medium-term cellaring.

The 2018 Soave San Brizio wafts up with mineral intensity, as crushed stone blows off to reveal musky apricot and savory spice. It’s silky in texture and rich, with a pure display of ripe peaches plus a hint of sour citrus and vanilla bean. Honeyed florals offset by a twang of lemon zest linger throughout the long, refreshing finale. While a bit large-scale in feel, the San Brizio maintains perfect balance. Very nice.

From: Soave and the Still White Wines of Veneto (Jul 2019)

Golden-tinged straw yellow. A combination of menthol and balsamic oils dominate the nose pushing the pomaceous orchard fruit into the background. Enters herbal and fresh, then more savory and earthy but still fresh, with a spicy, oak-derived kick for added complexity. Finishes long, peppery and classically dry, with hints of acacia honey. More complex and deeper than the Fontègo, but not necessarily better, just different. 100% Garganega made from vines that are roughly 25 years old and aged about seven months in new and once used tonneaux. The wine takes its name from the vineyard, located on the via San Brizio just behind the estate’s main building.

Golden yellow. Superripe aromas of peach, dried apricot and honey. Then fresh and crisp in the mouth, with an almost austere quality to the apple and tropical fruit flavors. This tastes as if some of the grapes had been hit by noble rot or air-dried. Finishes long with hints of honey, saffron and sweet spices. The wine takes its name from the vineyard, located just behind the estate’s main building.

The SAN BRIZIO is steadly becoming one of the best Soave, as proved by the many awards received over the years. The 2013 is particularly impressive right from its very intense gold. The ageing in wood was perfectly managed, it does not cover the wine’s aromas such as the nice acacia honey overtones followed by exotic fruit (pineapple), flower (dandelion) and spicy (vanilla) hintes. The palate is embrancing, with an extraordinary balance, a great fragrance and an excellent persistence thanks to the pleasant bitter almond finish. We enjoyed it with a shellfish risotto, as excellent as the wine.
